In its northern and western locations, the landscape of Western Australia is composed mainly of broad plateaus articulated by a number of mountain ranges; to the east lie huge deserts. The Kimberley area inside the far north is usually a multisectioned plateau. The coastline is rugged and risky, with powerful currents and a tidal selection that may
